Our stables

The agria stable

Stable built in the 1860s and extended in the 1940s.

The drawings were approved in 1867. Originally the building had two rooms with 13 stalls each, serving as a remounting stable. The loft housed hay and a saddle room.

In the early 20th century, the building was used as an infirmary stable. An operating room was added during the 1940s at a right angle to the old house. In 1987 is was refitted as a stable and now is a shoeing smithy and a stable for 17 horses. Agria is the name of an insurance company for animals.

Kungsgårdsstallet

This stable is the newest among all stables at Strömsholm. It was finished in 2001 and accomodates a total of 50 horses divided in two buildings with a barn each. In between the two stables there is a Centrehouse where you groom your horse.

The stables have been adjusted to fulfill the needs of the horse as far as possible and the Centrehouse is adjusted to fulfill the needs of us humans.

The white stable

On February 5th, 1863, the government confirmed the construction of a new stone stable. The contractor was A.T. Wallenius from Örebro, built from drawings by the architect E.E. von Rothstein. The stable was completed in 1865 and measures 83 x 12,5 metres.

The White Stable was also called the Stallion Stable and was fitted with 44 stalls and 12 boxes, plus harness room and office. Hay could be stacked on the loft via the two dormers.

Prior to the 1860s, the 148 metres long Mare or Clock Stable lay along the entire west side of the stable courtyard, timbered in the middle of the 17th century. It contained stalls, foaling rooms and a small manége to the south. It was torn down to make room for the two exicting buildings.
Today the stable has 30 boxes.

the north stable

The North Stable, or Foal Stable, was built 1866-1867 using the same drawings and measuring as The White Stable.
Originally the stable was divided into two sections, one with 16 stalls and 7 boxes and the other with 44 stalls and 2 boxes plus storage rooms. Hay could be stacked on the loft via the dormers.

For a few decades up to 1995, The North Stable served as a museum for the carriages of the Royal Armoury. Since then it has been renovated and now has space for 31 horses.

The red stable

This stable was built in 1910.
The old, so called National Stable, stood here until it burned down in 1909. It had been used for about a century, after being moved here from Kungsör where it had been taken down in 1810-11 and floated up to Strömsholm. After it was set up, the courtyard was finally completely surrounded by stables and manéges. The old National Stable was 75 metres long.

The Red Stable has been renovated in 2010 and now holds boxes for 37 horses.
