Our indoor arenas

the white manège

The so-called New Stables stood on this site until they burned down in 1850, having been built as early as in 1688.

There had been plans for a new manège at Strömsholm for a long time, but fortifications engineer Kleen was still ordered to make new drawings in March 1851, approved the next year. The costs estimated to 18.950 riksdaler banco. The manège was used for general and dressage training.

The White Manège was renovated in 1997 and is mostly used by the Strömsholm Riding school for dressage training.

The yellow manège

This manège was built in 1909. The Army Ridning and Driving school moved to Strömsholm in 1868, but it was not until the early 20th century that a second manège could be built. Architect Erik Josephsson prepared the drawings and The Yellow Manège was completed in 1909.

”the spittoon”

This house was built in 1871 as a manège and carriage house.
Since everyone said that this manège was not larger than a spittoon, it came to be called that.

The timbers came from the so-called ”life guard stables” from 1650. The roof clock tower comes from the long ”Clock Stable” which lay along the west side of the stable courtyard where the North and the White Stables now stand. Half ”The Spittoon” is a manège and the other half a carriage house and a feed barn.

Photographs from 1881 show carousel ridning in front of this building, while later pictures show school and balance riding indoors.

Today it is mostly used for longing.

kungsgårdsridhuset
